Let’s be real—there’s nothing like lighting a scented candle after a long day, cozying up on the couch, and letting the aroma work its magic. Whether you're a candle connoisseur or burning your first candle, here are a few easy tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of your favorite Martha Street Maker scented candles.

1. Trim the wick—every time

Before you light up, give that wick a little trim (about 6mm is perfect). A shorter wick means a cleaner burn, less soot, and a longer-lasting candle. You can use a proper wick trimmer, but a pair of scissors works just fine also.

2. Let it melt all the way across

The first burn is super important. Let the wax melt edge to edge before blowing it out. This prevents “tunneling” (that annoying crater that forms in the middle) and helps your candle burn evenly every time.

3. Burn it in chunks—not all day

You don’t need to keep it lit for hours on end. Try burning your candle for 3–4 hours at a time. This gives you enough scent payoff without wasting it or overheating the jar.

4. Keep it away from drafts

Windy spots like windowsills or under fans can make the flame flicker and burn unevenly. A steady flame makes for a happier candle (and less mess).

5. Store it smart

If you’re not burning it, pop the lid back on or store it in a cool place away from direct sunlight. This keeps the scent fresh and protects the wax from dust or sunlight that can mess with the fragrance.

6. Reuse the jar

Once your candle’s done, don’t toss the jar! Clean it out with warm water and dish soap, and reuse it for pens, makeup brushes, tiny plants, or whatever brings you joy.

So there you go—simple, no-fuss ways to make your candles last longer and smell better. Light it up, relax, reminisce on the memories the scent brings and enjoy your space smelling amazing. You deserve it!
